Grateful for this conversation with Dr. Sandy Richter (a leading egalitarian Old Testament scholar), Brenna Blain (a same-sex attracted sexual abuse survivor), and Preston Sprinkle on his Theology in the Raw podcast.
We talked about the recent controversy, whether “one flesh” refers to conjugal union or fictive kinship, Brenna’s response to reading the whole book, how iconic imagery confronts sexual abuse, Israel’s temple symbolism vs ancient fertility cults, and more.
Dr. Sandy Richter is currently the The Robert H. Gundry Chair of Biblical Studies at Westmont college and the author of many books including The Epic of Eden. Sandy has an MDiv from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary and a PhD from Harvard University.
Brenna Blain obtained her BA in Theology and Biblical Studies from Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon and is especially passionate about God’s involvement in our pain and personal struggles including mental illness, same sex attraction and abuse.
